Are your aging hands giving away your age or making you look older than you feel? You work hard to keep your face and body looking their best; don’t your hands deserve the same attention?  Discoloration, thinning dry skin, loss of fat and volume, and visible veins can make your hands look aged and unattractive, detracting from an otherwise youthful and vibrant appearance. Fortunately, there are several nonsurgical treatment options that may help turn back the clock on the appearance of your hands to help them regain a look of youth and vitality.

Laser Treatments

If concerns such as discoloration or sagging skin are among the culprits that make your hands look old and feeble, laser treatment may be the best options for restoring a younger-looking appearance to the hands. Dermal Fillers

If your hands have an aged look to them due to thin skin and visible veins, dermal fillers may provide the best route for hand rejuvenation. The two most commonly used fillers for treating the appearance of aging hands are Radiesse® and Sculptra® Aesthetic.

RADIESSE for Hand Rejuvenation

Radiesse is made of tiny calcium-based microspheres suspended in a water-based gel. The calcium microspheres are similar to minerals found naturally in the body so allergy testing is not required. Over time, the body absorbs the microspheres and gel, leaving behind only natural collagen. Once injected, RADIESSE® plumps the skin to give the appearance of a smoother surface. Results are immediate and last about 12-24 months.

SCULPTRA for Hand Rejuvenation

Sculptra Aesthetic is a superior dermal filler gel formulated with poly-L-lactic acid, a substance that provokes increased production of collagen in the skin cells. Sculptra is formulated to correct moderate to severe wrinkles and loss of volume caused by decreased collagen production. Sculptra® gradually and subtly increases volume and fullness in the skin, imparting a fuller, firmer, and more youthful-looking appearance that may last up to two years, and more in some cases.  Sculptra® is thicker and more viscous than most other dermal filler gels; this viscosity helps it to produce ongoing gradual improvements in skin tone, fullness, smoothness, and firmness over a period of several weeks. Sculptra® injections provide long-lasting results that, in most patients, can last anywhere from 24 months to 3 years.

Fat Grafting for Hand Rejuvenation

In some cases, hand rejuvenation may be achieved through fat grafting or fat transfer injections that transfer fat from other areas of the body where you have abundant fat, to areas where a little extra fat may be needed. A small amount of fat may be harvested from areas such as the abdomen or hips, processed, and delivered by injection directly under the skin of the hands. In many cases, your body will absorb some of the fat, and more than one treatment may be required to achieve optimal lasting results; however, after 3 months you may visible appreciate the final results.

Your hands may be inadvertently detracting from your youthful and vibrant appearance, as aging and sun exposure take a toll on the delicate skin in this area.
