Ear lobe repair is a commonly performed procedure at Houston Dermatology and Plastic Surgery by both our plastic surgeons and dermatologist. Elongated ear lobe holes from longterm usage of heavy earrings can leave ones ear lobe stretched out and the pierced holes elongated in the vertical direction. One's ear lobe piercing can accidentally get ripped out leaving a split earlobe. These holes or splits are lined with skin and can not simply be closed with suture. One must have the skin removed and closed to obliterate the skin lining.
Also, some people that have gaged their ears will have very large holes with stretched out skin. This can be repaired in many different ways depending on the size of the hole and the remain skin envelope.
